Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exciting and Easy product to use! I have been using the 9 inch HDS Gen-3 units since they hit the stores. I replaced two 9 inch Gen-2 units and I could immediately tell a difference. These Gen-3 units are much faster, smoother, and the menu systems are very easy to figure out and navigate. I use mine in an open boat and very bright sunshine doesn't hamper your viewing of the backlit screen. The TOUCH screens are quick, accurate, and easy to clean with any non-abrasive glass cleaner. They don't streak or stain! Connecting the two units was very easy using just a single Ethernet cable plus I also connected them into my existing NMEA network. Quick to set up and get you on the water. Great products!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Find the fish with a gen 3 9 I have had the Gen 3 9 since February. I networked my two Gen 2 12's to it. I wanted the chirp capabilities and got so much more with this unit. The bottom definition is outstanding. My marks for fish are so clean. This unit does it all...! It allows me to locate the target species with confidence. The insight mapping is true and very precise at any speed on water. I have shown what this system can do to many people and rest assured, it has made them believers as well. Great job Lowrance. Keep up the good work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDS-9 Gen3 I purchased this from Cabelas about 2 years ago after researching for several weeks. GPS loads quickly. Depth is accurate and is constantly updated compared to my older Furuno unit I replaced. Keeps all my routes and history tracks. I use a micro SD card to load updates copied from my PC.Bottom line, I'm pleased with this purchase. Recommendation: purchase the device with the largest screen you can afford that will fit in the space where it's going to be mounted. These units are pricey. But you can catch a sale or rebate with a transducer bundle which helps reduce the price. I also installed it myself which saved labor costs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from needs improvement I have a the 9 mounted in my console of a zx20 skeetet. The device keeps restart if I try to hide the menu bar on the right and it lags when I try to zoom in and out. Looking for and update to correct this hopefully

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still has some bugs I am still having some problems with the unit getting lost while using it. Yesterday while I was using the auto pilot the button to put it in Standby would not work. One other time the unit reset its self while trying to change the zoom on the chart. Also some times the unit does not react to the chart zoom touch screen.I also find the side/down scan doesn't seem to work very well in saltwater over 60ft. Compare it to the 200Hz regular sonar its "marks" on the screen are very very faint. Have the contrast all the way up. t may its how I am operating it, but I presently find it useless in water over 80 ft. I am confident that Lowrance with solve these issues in later releases of software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased Bought an extra power cord and put a cigarette plug on the end so it will connect to a spare battery box. I can set on the couch and set the unit up, view past files, and practice with the simulator before ever going to the lake. Made the first trip a breeze.Only concern is I bought Lake Insight HD v15 and have an Insight Lakes Pro 2013...I was surprised that the old Pro had a more detailed map than the same lake on the HD version. You would think if the lake wasn't HD they would have used the 2013 version from the Pro on the v15.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice unit I have only had this unit for a month and upgraded from an HDS9 Gen 2. This unit has a really bright crisp screen, fast boot time and is a breeze to set up. I bought two units so I have them linked via nmea and Ethernet cables for sharing. I like the ability to share the map especially. I have been using Lowrance since I purchased my first boat in 1989 and the constant innovation is impressive. I love Structure Scan for finding structure and fish off to the side of the boat. Never knew what I was missing. Most interesting find so far is what appears to be an old wooden shipwreck. It is 93 feet long and sitting in forty feet of water. You can distinctly see the ribs and planking on the ship on Structure Scan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost great Everything works as advertised. I was disappointed to find out after installation the unit is not compatible with setting way points ahead for tracking with my TR 1. The gen 2's were. Oversight on Lowrance's part?
