Elite-7 CHIRP is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Elite 7 HDI The initial unit would not stay on for an entire fishing any where from 15 minutes to 4 hours after 3 months of trouble the unit was returned (via RMA authorization) and found to be defective. Technical support suggested I download version 4.0 for the unit however the file was not compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 and I could not open the file. I now have a replacement unit that has the version 4.0 programed into it and it works beautifully One other issue on page 42 of the manual the menues need to have print size larger for easy reading. This was a horrible experience for me since I have six earlier units from Lowrance which all were trouble free.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unexpected Issues I bought this product after being a very satisfied user of an old 5" Lowrance which was spot on with the mapping. This new model seems to be about 30 yards off course. I requested help and was told I need to download the new 4.0 software. I precisely followed directions on the download and after 4 attempts, still cannot get the new software to download. Another disappointing issue is the cover plate no longer comes standard. You discover this after you buy the product. I found it was considerably cheaper to buy the cover plate from West Marine. My faith in Lowrance has diminished with the newer product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Do not upgrade if your unit is working OK The unit worked well until I did an upgrade and then that's where the trouble started, the chart plotter became slow and even gave a blank screen until the processor caught up, the directing set to heading up did not correct until well after I had altered course to the point that I had nearly gone off screen.Don't use it with high chrip as the plotter will go blank although the chirp seems to do what they claim you just wont know where you are until the unit catches up!!!!!!Navico are trying to resolve it but that's all I am being told and having spokebn to staff at the boat show all they want to do if fob you off and get you off the stand .One piece of advice if its working DONT UPGRADE IT.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow Mapping The Navionics charts load extremely slow. Anytime you zoom in or out it the screen goes blank for 30 secs and then the chart will load. It gets even worse if you have sonar and map at the same time. It seems the CPU in the device is underpowered and cannot process the data fast enough. The device also takes a long time to boot. Sometimes it gets stuck with the chart not loading and rebooting helps, but the reboot process is several minutes. Again, a sign that the CPU is underpowered. This unit is much slower than my old LCX-20C that it replaced. So I'm not impressed with the "upgrade".

Rated 4 out of 5 by from needs lip service I've had the unit for a year now, and one of the problems is if you hit the wrong button things show upon the screen that you don't want and there is no way of removing it unless you get the manual out and then scroll through all the pages and menu option to find what your looking for, which in the long run just easier to bite the bullet and hit reset to default knowing one will lose all way points, also at times the screen freezes up and you have to turn it off, wait a little then turn it back on for it to start doing its thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Woeful mapping!!!!! Bought this new from BCF. First thing loaded the updated software etc etc. However.....mapping performance is simply appalling!!! Just trying to scroll the map is a problem. The unit can obviously not cope with the Bundled Navionics maps.Trying to ride with it even worse. Refresh rate cannot keep up and having to stop, wait for unit to catch up and then carry on moving. So disappointed after spending $900 on a "new high performance" fishfinder!?!!?!?!?!?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought this unit about 5 months ago. I had to return the first one it wood not stay on and Cabela's had too reorder and it took 2 weeks too get it Now this one as you going down the lake the boat out runs the chart even at low speeds.as are going down the lake your chart is blank from the top down when it get about 2/3 of the way down it jumps back to the top and starts doing it again. This has not ben a very good idem !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slow Processor I bought the Elite 7 Chirp with the Navionics Gold chip as a package at the ISE in Sacramento earlier this year. I like the graphics and content. The sonar and DSI seems to work great. However, when traveling and moderate speed 30mph or less, the map tracking feature does not keep up and does not refresh fast enough. Basically, the mapping is useless when motoring. This needs to be fixed and I am dissappointed.
