BR24 Broadband Radar software version 2.9.270

The 2.9.270 BR24 software release is now available and replaces version 2.8.240 and 2.8.251.

BR24 Broadband Radars occasionally require a software upgrade. This is generally to implement new features or improve functionality. The Lowrance BR24 Broadband Radar can be easily upgraded in the field using a Lowrance HDS Multifunction Display (MFD) with memory card slot.

Key 2.9.270 Update Enhancements

High speed scanner rotation (36RPM) available when operating in ranges below 2nm. This results in a 1.7 second sweep time vs. 2.4 seconds.
Auto/manual side lobe suppression control.
Local Interference rejection to eliminate switch mode power supply interference from nearby electronics.
Improvement in fault reporting of the radar to assist field diagnostics (see table below)
Improvement to “cold start”. Modified motor start routine to provide sufficient torque at temperatures below
-8◦ C (17◦ F).
Other minor bug fixes.
Improved pulse radar interference rejection using deeper noise rejection filtering methods.
Improvement in radar range discrimination improvement with Target Boost Off.

System Requirements
Java must be installed on your computer for the installers to operate. If you do not already have a Java installed, please visit the Java website. Lowrance HDS update software will run on any Java-enabled machine running Windows® 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista, Mac OS X, or Linux.

Troubleshooting
Please first try to download the stand-alone installer for your operating system. Choose the appropriate operating system below:
PC Win98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista | Mac OS X* | Linux

*Mac OS X users may need to reapply the execute permissions to the stand-alone installer after it has finished downloading. To reapply the execute permissions, open a Terminal window, and type the following command (this assumes you downloaded the file to your desktop): chmod +x desktop/BR24_2_9_270.command

Fault Codes when used with HDS
Fault Code Meaning
0x00010001 Zero bearing fault.
0x00010002 Bearing pulse fault (parameter 1 =sensor error. Parameter 2 = quadrature sensor error).
0x00010003 Motor not turning.
0x00010004 No communication with antenna.

Copy the update to your SD/MMC card

Make sure a SD/MMC card reader is properly connected to your computer (and, if necessary, that the drivers are installed).
Insert a SD/MMC card into your PC’s card reader.
Click on the "- Copy the update to your SD/MMC card - " link below to go to the installation web page.
Wait for the Java web installer to download and run. Follow the Lowrance update installation instructions. If you are not sure about a step, just select the default choice.
When the installer finishes you will be prompted to click Finish to exit. This step will copy the files to the root of the SD/MMC card.

To install from the web, please enable both Javascript and Java in your browser through the Options or Preferences menu in your browser and reload this page. If your browser does not support Java or Javascript, please install one of these browsers and return to this page.

Installing the 2.9.270 software update on your BR24 Broadband Radar
Important things to remember

Do not remove the portable drive during the upgrade process
Do not turn off the display or remove power from the radar during an upgrade
Do not start the upgrade when the radar is in transmit mode

Start your HDS and then enter Standby.
Do not start the upgrade when radar is transmitting! Note: Make sure the Portable drive with the upgrade file is NOT inserted when the HDS first starts.
Open the Chart Card door on your HDS to expose the SD Card reader. Insert your SD Card into the card reader. Insert the card all the way in until it clicks and stays in place.

Press the PAGES and use the left or right arrows to select the Waypoints, routes, trails menu. Down arrow to highlight Files then press ENTER.
Highlight the memory card then press right arrow to display the contents of the card.
Select the file “Radar.riw”.
Press MENU and select Upgrade.
Highlight the radar device in the list, then press enter to select the radar.
Press MENU then highlight “Start Upgrade” Press ENTER.
The upgrade process will begin. The update will take about two minutes and display the following messages.
After the upgrade has finished. Take the time to verify the upgrade has been successful. Check the software version on the status page by pressing; MENU>MENU>RADAR> INSTALLATION>RADAR STATUS.
