Trip Report to Forster

Team Lowrance HDS consisting of Mark Healey and Adrian Neoh made the trip from Lake Macquarie northwards to Forster for round five of the Berkley Evinrude Teams Series (BETS) May 2013.

The 80 Breaming Teams travel from far and wide to compete in what can be considered as one of Australia’s greatest fishing competitions.

Sitting equal 1st after four rounds, the boys were keen to place well and stay top of the table. Saturday’s unsuccessful pre-fish brought with it the realisation it wasn’t going to be easy come tournament day.

Here’s how Mark and Adrian got on:

“Sunday morning came, and there was a real buzz in the air. With all the competitors keen to get on the water and catch a big bag of bream!

We started off in 1st place, leading the barrage Tournament boats up into the estuary. We started of fishing an area we’ve had previous success using the waypoints saved on our Lowrance HDS Gen2 Touch. We positioned upwind and run drifts across productive areas and using the trail feature to ensure we covered the area well.

After fishing for several hours we had a reasonable catch and headed back to the weigh-in.

Arriving back at the weigh-in several teams bragged about their catch and stories of the one that got away. Heading to the stage, 4.45kg was the catch to beat. The weigh master placed our bag of five bream on the scales which came to rest at 4.17kg and just shy of first place.

We took a comfortable second which keeps us top of the board on the BETS points table with a 19 point lead."

The Lowrance Lake Macquarie round 6 in June will complete the preliminary rounds before heading into the Grand final in Sydney Harbour later in August.
